Del Futbol – Soccer
Futbol or soccer is the most popular sport in the world. The sport is so popular because people from all over the world can play it. All the sport really requires is a ball. The field can vary, the soccer uniforms can vary, and the players can vary. In fact, you don't have to have a soccer ball. If you find a ball that can be kicked, you can make a fun game out of it. Some people find that they can have a great time just kicking a soda bottle or something similar around. Soccer is available to everyone and that gives it great appeal.
Del Futbol and Soccer Keep You in Shape
The average person runs about eight miles per soccer outdoor soccer game. If you notice, many of the soccer players are built for running. They are often quite thin and have a smaller build that is copable with running. You don't find people like Arnold Schwarzenegger becoming professional soccer players.
Soccer and Del Futbol are Fun
If you ask a child what their favorite part of the day is, many will tell you playing soccer at recess. Soccer is a great sport for school. Tall kids and short kids and overweight children can play the game. This is different than other sports. In basketball, the tall children are highly favored. In American Football, the super strong boys are highly favored. Basketball and American football often leave people out of the game. In soccer, a much wider variety of people can play and have fun.
Futbol and Soccer Carry Into Adult Life
Soccer is not as hard on the body as American football and basketball. There are many recreation leagues all over major cities. The leagues are often separated by age and gender, but not always. There are coed teams and teams that just care if you are good (age doesn't matter).
It is not uncommon to see people that are fifty years of age and more still playing soccer on a weekly basis. Many of these people love soccer so much that they are on more than one team. Most of these recreation players are on a couple of indoor teams and a couple of outdoor teams. The reason is so that they can play soccer all year long.
Famous Soccer and Futbol Players
Pele
Pele has to be the most popular soccer player of all time. Pele is from Brazil; a country that loves soccer. In fact, Brazil considers Pele to be a national treasure. Pele holds the record for being the leading scorer of any other Brazilian futbol player. Pele is the only socoor player in the world to be awarded three World Cup medals (src: Wikipedia).
In America, Pele is known for inventing the bicycle kick. The bicycle kick is when you jump and kick the ball backwards over your head and land on your back.
Pele's real name is Edison Arantes do Nascimento. Pele is a nickname.
David Beckham
David Beckham played futbol for Englands Manchester United for many years. After a great career and even being the top paid player in soccer from time to time, David Beckham now plays major league soccer for the Los Angeles Galaxy.
David Beckham is probably the best branded player of all time. His name sells all kinds of sporting goods. The US has a hard time getting the best soccer players because the sport is not as popular as basketball or American football. Since the Los Angeles Galaxy brought Beckham to the United States it has spurred increased demand for ticket sales.
Soccer and Futbol Countries
Not all countries treat soccer with the same respect and admiration. In the United States, soccer is considered a big yawner to watch. The differences in countries is in part due to the players and quality of announcers. For example, basketball had a hard time catching on in the United States. What took the sport into popularity was having a few really great players (like Wilt Chamberlain) that people loved to watch.
The countries that recruit the best futbol players are Italy, Brazil, and Argentina. Brazil and Argentina have an intense rivalry that goes way back. The rivalry continues to make the sport exciting in those areas.
Other great soccer countries are Germany, France, Portugal, England, and Spain.
How to Play Soccor and Futbol
Soccer and futbol are easy to play. There is a coin toss at the beginning of the game to determine who will get to kick off.
Teams have five kinds of players. The strikers play up front and have the primary job of scoring goals. Midfielders back up the strikers with passing and defense. The fullbacks stay back the farthest and have the main job of preventing goals from being scored. The goalie has the primary job of keeping the ball from scoring and they can use their hands. The final type of player is the stopper. Their job is to pass the ball back up the field quickly and to be a ball feeding tool. The stopper is basically a center fullback.
Soccer players will typically drive the ball up the sides of the field. The reason is that the middle is usually way too hard to move the ball through. One of the reasons is that the best players often play in the middle of the field. The stopper plays in the middle and the center striker is often the most aggressive scorer. The center midfielder is often the best midfield player too. The setup makes sense because if the middle was an easy place to move the ball the game would be really easy.
So, the ball will typically move up the sides of the field. Then, when the ball gets near the top of the field the left or right striker (often called the wings) will cross the ball across the middle. The center striker and midfielder should be there to head the ball in or trap the ball and kick it in. The whole process is extremely difficult and that is why the scoring is usually so low. When a goal is scored it feels like a real accomplishment.
The soccer ball can roll onto the line and it isn't out until the ball completely passes over the line. When the ball is out, then a player will take the ball with both hands on the ball and pass it overhead to another player. When the ball goes out past the goal line at the far end of the field it is either a goal kick or a corner kick. When the opposing team kicks the ball past the line it is a goal kick. When it is your goal and you kick it past the line, then the opposing team gets a corner kick. A corner kick is when the ball is place on the very corner of the field closest to the goal the team wants to score on. They give it a kick and then the players try to head the ball into the goal. Some players can kick the ball in the curvature of a banana and make it curve right into the goal. This feat is very difficult to do. In a goal kick, the goalie simply places the ball on the ground and kicks the ball to another player or usually as far as they can.
Soocer and Futbol Future
You can expect soccer to continue to gain popularity. There is a reason it is the #1 sport in the world. There are not a lot of equipment needs to play it and it can be played throughout adulthood. It can be expected that once the United States gets some more great brandable players like David Beckham that the sport will grow much more. In addition, as people immigrate to the United States, most of them favor futbol over other sports.
